The history of The Palms Lifestyle centre

Market at The Palms is located within The Palms Decor and Lifestyle Centre in Woodstock, just outside the Cape Town city centre.

Originally, this building was home to one of Cape Town’s very first bakeries. The building dates back to the first quarter of the last century when it was built to house “Baumann’s Biscuits” and “Duens Bread”.

The Palms Lifestyle and Decor Centre opened its doors in this very same building in the year 2000. The aim was to keep the building as authentic as possible; keeping the old-world charm it has and protecting it as much as possible. This is one of the most iconic buildings in Woodstock and boasts an interesting combination of vintage trimmings and contemporary edge.

It is now the proud home of several fabric merchants, architects, interior designers, creatives and even a well-known coffee shop!

The centre is also the proud be the home of the popular, Market at the Palms, which takes place every Saturday from 09:00 to 14:30. The market has a wide range of exhibitors who sell wine, fantastic food and amazing crafts.

Market at the Palms, is family friendly – lots of children, dogs, parents and grandparents enjoy this unique marketplace every week. The market shall go on –  the market takes place inside the centre, it is not at all affected by the weather. Market goers can have peace of mind that nothing can keep them from enjoying a relaxing day at Market at the Palms.

The centre also has a small stage that hosts a live music artist each Saturday to entertain market goers, as they browse all that the vendors have on offer. The market is also famous for its intimate and lovely seating area -where one can enjoy a bite to eat or sit back and have a glass of wine.

Market at the Palms takes place every Saturday from 09:00 to 14:30. The Palms Decor and Lifestyle Centre address is, 145 Sir Lowry Road, Woodstock. The exhibitions change every week- so do not assume you have seen it all.
