The BOZZA has been chosen. MTN and the Springboks called and the nation has answered by choosing Mark Nancarrow to be the Official Bozza – the exclusive “social media eyes and ears” of South Africa’s rugby-loving nation for the upcoming Castle Lager Rugby Championship in August 2018 until the 2019 World Cup in Japan.
MTN SA, in collaboration with SA Rugby, launched a mission in May 2018 – a quest to find the perfect person to follow the Springbok rugby team around the world to give fans an exclusive insight into the behind-the-scenes world of our beloved heroes.
The MTN Call-Up produced three finalists who showcased their social media skills during the Springbok’s incoming tour last month: Quinton Janse van Rensburg, Mark Nancarrow and Ndabenhle “Bench” Zondi, were each allowed the same opportunities and access, to showcase their Bozza skills in the days leading up to each test match and match day.
This included access to the team during pre-game activities, such as signing sessions and jersey giveaways, breakfast with Coach Rassie Erasmus, team announcements, training sessions as well as exclusive locker room experiences led by legends: John Smit, Os Du Randt and Corné Krige before each test match.
Public voting helped guide MTN and SA Rugby to settle on the final winner who is most worthy of the Official Bozza title.
Mapula Bodibe; Executive for Consumer Business at MTN SA says: “We are delighted for Mark, who showed great passion and commitment throughout the challenge. Our campaign with the Springboks is an opportunity for us to connect our customers with their passion and we think that Mark is the ‘Bozza’ to do just that. The Springbok team remains an important national asset that many of us can identify with and we are pleased to give our customers a platform that brings them closer to our national team.”
Superior quality and speed are the hallmarks of MTNs award-winning network, with MTN continuously striving to refine quality and improve user experiences.
“We want to make connecting better and easier and we look forward to seeing what Mark does with this opportunity to connect South Africans with the very best qualities of Springbok rugby. We thank SA Rugby and the Springboks for answering the call by allowing us this kind of exclusive access,” added Bodibe.
Springbok captain Siya Kolisa congratulated Mark his selection.
“All three Bozza finalists showed exceptional enthusiasm and great social media skills in their time with us during the June nationals. It was a pleasure to welcome them into the Springbok family. Well done to Mark for taking the honours and I am sure he is very excited to be a part of the most incredible journey with the Springboks and our national team sponsor MTN.”
The George-based 23-year old recently graduated from Rhodes University with a degree in Politics and Journalism and is known for spending his days thinking and researching rugby. Nancarrow had the opportunity to showcase his skills at the exciting second test match in Bloemfontein on Youth Day where the Springboks clinched the series with a phenomenal 23 – 12 victory over England.
He expressed how the opportunity exceeded his very high expectations of his dream job: “This is what I want to do for the rest of my life and being a part of this completely confirmed just how much I love this team, this job and just how excited and happy I would be to continue doing it until the end of 2019.”
Nancarrow is now the “Bozza” of the team. MTN will cover all costs, which are valued at R2 million, to make sure that “Bozza” is always in the front row seat wherever the Springboks play.
