“The town of Clanwilliam is enthusiastic to make this year’s Clanwilliam Wildflower Show extra special. The excitement is contagious because everyone is so happy that we are having a show again this year,” said Alicia Erasmus, marketer of the Clanwilliam Wildflower Show.
In less than a month the annual Clanwilliam Wildflower Show will be held in the Flower Church. The Cederberg region will provide the best exhibition possible to visitors. Not only the most beautiful flowers will be on show in the church from 24 August to 2 September, but visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy a lovely variety of stalls in the town.
“We are counting the days to the opening of this year’s Clanwilliam Wildflower Show. Everybody involved in the Clanwilliam Wildflower Association and who will build the beautiful flower exhibitions in the church have already begun planning to provide the best exhibitions for visitors,” said Alida Stone, chairman of the Clanwilliam Wildflower Association.
She said the community is greatful about the welcoming rain that fell over the area and left the fields emerald green. “Everywhere you can see beautiful fields of flowers, for example in the Biedouw Valley and even in the town of Clanwilliam as well. We hope to create an exceptional show this year and will use new ways to showcase the beautiful flowers.”
Alida says more rain will be welcome to extend the life of the flowers. The misty mornings are also very good for the fields. Cooler weather and little berg winds will also be beneficial.
Visitors can experience more than 400 species of wildflowers and plants, all under one roof, in the Clanwilliam Flower Church. The theme “rejuvenate” will be highlighted this year with the arrangements that will be a good reflection of the recent drought that the region has experienced.
Kerry Ann Cloete, who visited the show in the past, had the following to say: “It was a wonderful variety of wildflowers. Everything was in one place. And especially because we were only in Clanwilliam for a short while during the flower season, we could see most of the beautiful flowers under one roof.”
It’s definitely a natural spectacle that you should not miss. Besides the exhibition in the church, visitors can also walk through stalls in the Main Street. Stalls selling anything from roosterkoek to crafts will be set up in different places, including opposite the Flower Church and next to Reinholds Restaurant. There is nothing better than a homemade bite or the most beautiful piece of art to highlight your visit to the Clanwilliam Wildflower Show.
The Clanwilliam Wildflower Show will kick off with a splendid opening ceremony. The whole community is invited to go to the Flower Church on 23 August at 18:00 where the ribbon will be cut and visitors can have a free preview of the flower displays for half an hour.
After visitors viewed the beautiful flowers, a delicious wine pairing will be presented by Cederberg Wines and local restaurant owners at the Old Prison Museum. Tickets for this event are available at R250 per person at Emile Strassberger at Nancy’s Tearoom. Cash only will be accepted.
Everyone will get together at the Old Jail Museum in the square under a roof of flowers and leaves. Six different drinks, including champagne, red and white wine and sweet wine will be served with tapas-style food.
