Watch out for these old cars!

George – The 2018 Heritage Tour, sponsored by Montego Pet Nutrition, sets off on Saturday for a tour of the West Coast to enjoy the beautiful Namaqualand wildflowers.

Fifty-one participants travelling in 27 vehicles, which were produced between 1815 and 1975, will be participating.

Jan and Anita Wright will be taking part in their 1957 Morris Minor 1000. Jan found the car 13 years ago next to a building which was being restored, and it was almost completely covered in cement. He cleaned it up and they have since participated in four Heritage Tours. “I love the car, which is sometimes described as the biggest smallest car in the world!”

Maritz Stander will again be the navigator for Pierre Conradie in the latter’s 1960 Studebaker Champ bakkie, while Pierre and Tilly Olivier will again be travelling in their 1962 Morris Minor 1000.

At Weyers and wife Mare will for the fifth time take part on their three-wheel motorcycle, which At built using the engine of a 1400 Nissan bakkie.

Japie van Rooyen and wife Mariaan will be travelling in their 1957 Borgward Coupe. According to Japie, one of the founding members of the Southern Cape Old Car Club, this is one of only three of these Borgwards that were imported to South Africa. He also owns a 1954 Borgward Sedan.

The Heritage Tour coincides with National Heritage Day and is one of the highlights of the Southern Cape Old Car Club’s calendar. This year it provides an opportunity for the proud owners to show off their vehicles to the residents of a number of towns on the West Coast.

The participants arrive at Matroosberg 4×4 near Ceres on 21 September. On 22 September they travel via Malmesbury, Darling and Yzerfontein to Velddrift, where they overnight. On 23 September they travel via Piketberg and Leopoldtville to Lambertsbaai, where they overnight.

On 24 September they travel via Clanwilliam, Citrusdal and Porterville back to Ceres, where they end the tour with a glamorous gala dinner. On 25 September they return home via Heidelberg.

Kyk uit vir die ou motors!

George – Die 2018 Erfenistoer, moontlik gemaak deur Montego Pet Nutrition, skop Saterdag af vir ‘n reis na verskeie dorpe aan die Weskus om die blommeprag te geniet.

Altesaam 51 deelnemers in 27 voertuie, wat  tussen 1815 en 1975 vervaardig is, neem deel aan die toer.

Jan en Anita Wright van Danabaai neem vanjaar vir die vyfde keer in hul 1957 Morris Minor 1000 deel aan die Erfenistoer. “Die voertuig is al amper 13 jaar in ons besit,” vertel Jan. “Ons het hom opgespoor langs ‘n gebou wat hulle besig was om te restoureer, en hy was omtrent toe van die sement.”

“Sedertdien het ons al vier toere met hom meegemaak en al baie vreugdevolle myle met hom deurgemaak. Wat  besonders is aan die motortjie is sy kleinheid en betroubaarheid van die Morrissie. Soos die Engelse sal se “the biggest smallest car in the world!”  

Maritz Stander ry vanjaar weer saam met Pierre Conradie, maar vanjaar onderneem hulle die toer in Pierre se 1960 Studebaker Champ-bakkie. Pierre en Tilly Olivier ry weer met die blou1962 Morris Minor 1000.

At Weyers en sy vrou Mare van George neem vanjaar vir die vyfde keer deel met die driewiel-motorfiets, wat At so 10 jaar terug met volgens sy eie plan met ‘n 1400 Nissanbakkie-enjin gebou het.

Japie van Rooyen van Groot-Brakrivier, een van die stigterslede van die Suid-Kaap Oumotorklub, en sy vrou Mariaan neem vanjaar aan die Erfenistoer deel in sy 1957 Borgward Coupe. “Net drie van hierdie Borgwards het na Suid-Afrika gekom,” vertel Japie, wat ook ‘n 1954 Borgward Sedan besit. Sy vrou Mariaan ry saam met hom.

Die Erfenistoer val saam met nasionale Erfenisdag en is een op die hoogtepunte op die Suid-Kaap Oumotorklub se kalender. Dit gee eienaars vanjaar die geleentheid om hul liefde vir veteraan- en klassieke motors met die gemeenskappe van die dorpe aan die Weskus te deel.

Die deelnemers kom op 21 September by Matroosberg 4×4 buite Ceres bymekaar. Op 22 September vertrek hulle oor Malmesbury, Darling en Yzerfontein na Velddrif, waar hulle oornag. Op 23 September ry hulle oor Piketberg en Leopoldtville na Lambertsbaai, waar hulle oornag.

Op 24 September ry hulle oor Clanwilliam, Citrusdal en Porterville terug na Ceres, waar hulle weer by Matroosberg 4×4 oorbly en waar die toer op deftige wyse afgesluit word met ‘n gala-aand. Op 25 September vertrek die groep van die Tuinroete oor Heidelberg terug huis toe.
