Seeding Round winners Western Province made a brilliant start in their bid for back-to-back titles in the 58th #SAWomensIPT – the defending champions took a clean sweep in the foursomes and won 4 singles to mow down Southern Cape 7 – 2 at Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate.
A-SECTION – DIVISION 1
Western Province capitalized on gentle conditions in the morning to beat score a clean sweep in the Foursomes. Zayb Fredericks, Kelly Erasmus, captain Kaylah Williams and Vicki Traut racked up 4 points to guarantee a 7 – 2 result for the defending champions.
Ekurhuleni had more work to do against former champions Gauteng after the two teams drew 1.5-all in the foursomes.
Kiera Floyd took first blood for Ekurhuleni when she routed Eleonora Galletti 6 & 4 and Nadia van der Westhuizen backed her up with a 5 & 4 win over Marine Legentil. Captain Caitlyn Macnab and 2018 Sanlam SA Women’s Stroke Play champion Casandra Hall both won 3 & 1 to take the team’s tally to 4 points.
Kera Healy hit back for Gauteng, beating Kyra van Kan 5 & 3, but Teagan Lubbe pushed home a 6.5 – 5.5 victory when she knocked out Kim Turgut 2 & 1.
Western Province and Ekurhuleni both gained 2 points, but the 2017 winners moved into the top spot in the log with a half point games advantage.
