Garden Route Fire Update

At approximately 12:00 today aerial bombing was used to secure the fire lines at Jonkersberg and the top of the mountain above Geelhoutboom.
Ground teams were securing lines at Buffelsnek.
A recce flight revealed that the fire at Dubbelberg and Soetkraal is still active but inaccessible. Unified command agreed that those lines would be closely monitored and teams will continue with mopping-up operations and monitoring of the rest of the lines that have not been active during the day, in order to have them declared safe and dead by tomorrow if there are no flare ups during the night.

OPERATIONS WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS:
Safety of all responders with current wet weather in mind.
Patrol and mopping-up on all Divisions.
Systematic demobilisation of resources.
STATUS OF FIRES
GEORGE – Control and mopping-up under the plantation – securing of all smouldering areas. Flare ups and hotspots are being monitored.
WABOOMSKRAAL / GEELHOUTBOOM / JONKERSBERG
Control and mopping-up under the plantation – securing of all smouldering areas. North westerly fire is being assessed for hotspots and the burning status.
GOUDVELD AND SEVEN PASSES
Teams patrol the division from George along Seven Passes to Karatara. Securing and mopping-up of all hot spots.
DIEPWALLE
Teams are securing hotspots and continue with mopping-up operations in Diepwalle.
BUFFELSNEK
Teams are identifying and extinguishing all visible hotspots.
Mopping-up operations are taking place.
