The Western Province Twenty/20 club champion, Durbanville Cricket Club, were victorious in both their qualifying matches during the past weekends Western Cape Regional Twenty/20 play-offs.
They will now represent the Western Cape at the Cricket SA Momentum Community Cup T20 championships that will be hosted in Pretoria in December.
After a 12 runs victory in a high scoring encounter by the SWD champion, George (who posted 1776/6) against Vredenburg Saldanha from Boland (165/7) there were high hopes for the men from George. After recording an impressive 8 wickets victory against Vredenburg/Saldanha the men from Durbanville were also too strong from George and won by a similar margin (by 8 wickets) in the decisive match. Durbanville (132/2 in 15.1 overs) easily surpassed the winning target after George was restricted to 130/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
Obus Pienaar with knocks of 71 and 36 together with his SWD teammate, Marco de Kock – who scored 30 and 20 respectively were the top performers with the bat for George. Against Vredenburg/Saldanha Bailey Aarons (3/30) and Jaco Janse van Rensburg (3/34) both bagged 3 wickets for George.
