SANParks loses 1 more life after Beervlei fire

South African National Parks (SANParks) announces the tragic death of Sandra Davidson, wife of a current employee, Hendrik Davidson.

Her body was badly burnt during a fire which gutted down three (3) of the thirteen (13) houses in the Beervlei SANParks staff village.

She was transferred from the George hospital to Tygerberg hospital in Cape Town to receive further emergency care.

‘We are saddened at losing Sandra, our thoughts and prayers are with the Davidson family during this trying time. Our team will continue to provide the necessary support to the family and all affected people’ says Garden Route National Park Manager, Paddy Gordon.

Her death brings the number of people who have died as a result of the fires in Farleigh and Beervlei to ten (10). Eight people died in Farleigh (Rooikraal) include two (2) adults (Elsabe Florina Windvogel and Lesley Andra Bewee) and 6 children (Eljade Jaylene Windvogel, Ethan Calin-Lee Windvogel, Aliyah Simone Sime-Leandre Oelf, Nalaya Nashay Oelf, Niah Na-Lee Oelf and Nalani Brienne Oelf) and an unborn baby (Andrea Oelf) died in Rooikraal (Farleigh) on the 29th October 2018.

SANParks would like to thank Pine Lake Marina for offering discounted interim accommodation to the affected families including SANParks staff, pensioners and private residents. Costs are absorbed by SANParks through its insurance company.
