Hillcrest Quarry Durbanville – Saturday 27 April 2019
Treat yourself for an elegant day out the beautifully, scenic Hillcrest Quarry with some delectable oysters, coupled with a wide selection of Bubbles and Blanc choices, great music, celebrity chef demonstrations and an upmarket selection of foods.
Formally known as the Oyster and Champagne festival which was created in 2007, this popular festival has now grown bigger and better with the inclusion of a few local Sauvignon Blanc brands. The event will also feature a top range of South African Cap Classique and Sparkling Wines. Special brands from France, Italy and Spain will also be on offer. Some of the brands that will be available include Krone, KWV, DGB Boschendal, Hillcrest, Van Loveren Family Vineyards, Profumi D`Italia Marketing CC – Botegga.
It is said that the world`s famous lover Casanova ate 50 oysters every night before setting out on his conquests. How we adore these lovely clammy love- shell-treats. An abundant amount of oysters will be fresh in from the West Coast, especially cultivated and harvested for the Oysters Bubbles and Blanc Festival. There`s no right way to eat an oyster they say, but those who have an acquired taste for it believe it is best to pick up the shell and slurp down the oyster from the wide end. You can of course also bite into it, but only once or twice is recommended. When you`re done, it is etiquette to flip the shell over and admire its unique shape and pattern.
Co-Organizer Liezel Coetzee, owner of Deluxe Hub, says that her team is very excited to be part of this event for the first time. “We are working on making this year’s festival one for the books. We will be featuring more bubbly brands and the addition of the fabulous blanc wines to the festival will ensure a great variety on the day.” Coetzee adds: “The dress code is white and gold. This theme will add a gracious flair to the day. We will be giving away some fabulous prizes for best dressed, as well as some fun spot prizes.”
The live music line-up features Nhoza, The Pedestrians and KimmyC. These talented artists will keep the good vibes going all day.
Nomawethu (Nhoza) Sitsholwana is a singer/songwriter in a genre she calls ‘traditional African fusion’ of blues, jazz and traditional African music. Nhoza, who proudly calls herself unolali, meaning ‘village girl’, uses a natural skill to combine her deep-seated traditional African harmonies with strong blues/rock influences that she picked up from her years in the Cape Town music scene. Her astonishing vocal ability is the reason crowds tend to gravitate wherever Nhoza roams.
The Pedestrians are a young, vibrant and fresh Cape Town based band. These talented musicians perform an array of popular music that audiences love, including their own original tracks. Since their inception they have played at many festivals in and around Cape Town. They won big at the Suidoosterfees 2015 talent search (‘best band’, as well as overall winners of the talent search) In 2018 we released our debut single called SO MUCH FUN and it was very well received by the public.
Kimmy C started DJing in 2012 and is currently a resident DJ at many clubs in Cape Town. A force to be reckoned with, KimmyC has played for 5fm’s Queen of Clubs, HP Sound Wars Launch opening for DJ Fresh and Roger Goode and has shared a stage with many well knows SA Artists and DJ’s. She says: “For me it is all about an interaction. Check out the crowd, pour your heart into your music and believe in your choices.”
