TOKARA toasts autumn with a new vibrant Chardonnay vintage

TOKARA’s vibrant new Chardonnay vintage just released by this family owned Stellenbosch wine estate, is a perfect autumn companion as the cooler weather begins to waft in.

TOKARA Chardonnay 2017 holds great appeal with its bone dry, yet fresh citrus character and creamy texture.

The winery enjoys a formidable reputation as a producer of fine Chardonnay, a classic and much revered Burgundian variety that has found a home at TOKARA.

“There are glimpses of the creamy oatmeal, fine saline acidity and yellow fruits that characterise the French examples with our own influences of minerality and exuberance inherent in Stellenbosch Chardonnays,” says Karl Lambour, TOKARA General Manager.

Chardonnay occupies a special place at TOKARA with plantings situated mid slope on ancient decomposed granitic soils.

“These cooler sites afford our winemaker fragrant and perfumed grapes from which to craft our premium and reserve wines that offer discreet use of oak, immense complexity but most of all, sumptuous enjoyment,” adds Lambour,

Expect aromas of ripe quince and orange blossom to spring from your glass with underlying notes of fresh ginger and a hint of toasted almonds. The palate comes alive with fresh clementine, grapefruit and subtle notes of ginger spice. The mouthfeel is creamy and textured from ageing on the lees in predominantly older oak barrels, yet the wine finishes bone dry ending with lingering, lightly toasted almonds. It’s a slam dunk with fish and chicken and always a winner as an aperitif.

Be sure to raise a glass of the new TOKARA vintage on International Chardonnay Day on 23 May and embrace the cooler autumn weather.

TOKARA Chardonnay 2017 has a cellar door price of R100 per bottle and is available at leading stores countrywide.
