Unique tastes and flavours at Vintage Ideas Market

Visitors to this week’s Vintage Ideas Market can also enjoy some unique tastes and flavours.  The market, which takes place at Simondium’s Country Lodge from 25-28 April, boasts with an incredible selection of vintage and vintage-inspired items and a deli that is stocked with delicious treats.

Wine lovers can also expect something extraordinary with a special toffee and wine pairing presented by Diemersfontein Wine and Country Estate.  The Wellington-based farm renowned for creating the first coffee and chocolate Pinotage in 2001 will be presenting another innovative tasting at Vintage Ideas.  Try chocolate toffee with the Diemersfontein Pinotage or a cream and berry toffee with the Diemersfontein Harlequin red blend.  Visitors will also be able to buy stock their wine cellars with Diemersfontein’s Pinotage, Harlequin, Sauvignon Blanc and Spumanté for sale at great prices.

This year’s market is themed “Vintage Travel” and the deli recalls the exotic flavours of the Spice Route, the tempting sweetshops and confectioners of yesteryear glory days of travel and exotic foods.  New Beginnings Toffees will entice with their vintage styled toffees and caramels, while Kirstin’s Pantry offers healthy seeds and nuts.  Add a bit of zing to your kitchen with amazing spice blends in gorgeous packaging from Get Spice.

The vintage trend continues to gain popularity, specifically with millennials.  According to Pontus Silfverstolpe, one of the founders of the auction giant Barnebys, this trend is boosted by the quality of vintage and antique goods, the fact that they were made to last generations and that it is an environmentally friendly and sustainable way of decorating.

The market is open daily from 09h30 to 16h00 from Thursday till Saturday, closing at 15h00 on Sunday.  Entry tickets are available at the entrance at R40 per adult.  Free entry for children under 18.  Ample, secure parking is available.  Simondium’s Country Lodge is conveniently located between Paarl and Franschhoek and easily accessible via the N1 highway only 60km from Cape Town and a quick 15km from Stellenbosch via the Helshoogte Pass.
