Elgin Ridge 282 Pinot Noir 2016 – perfect for any occasion

South Africa is home to only a couple of certified biodynamic wine producers, and Elgin Ridge Wine Estate happens to be one of these. Situated in the picture-perfect Elgin Wine Valley, the estate owned by Brian and Marion Smith, is known for producing a small range of superb wines, one of these being the Elgin Ridge 282 Pinot Noir 2016.

The varietal is gaining traction with South African wine consumers, and has become one of the ‘go to’ red wines. Although Pinot Noir grapes aren’t favourable to growing in hot climates – for which South African is renowned for – the cool climate Elgin region is perfect for this varietal. The breezes from the Atlantic ensures that the grapes are kept cool, resulting in balanced wines with good fruit, fine acidity and minerality.

Being a certified Biodynamic and organic wine farm allows the winemaking team to produce excellent fruit which requires minimal intervention in the cellar. The 282 Pinot Noir 2016, a brilliant deep ruby red in colour, offers aromas of raspberry and dark cherry fruit on the nose, with floral nuances. On the palate the acidity adds an uplifting freshness to the cherry fruits and floral scent. The texture is silky with well-integrated juicy tannins. As Pinot Noir is one of the most versatile red wines it is also the perfect food wine. This wine is a match made in culinary heaven when partnered with a Beef Wellington, roast chicken or even hearty mushroom risotto. Comfort food and wine at its best!

The Elgin Ridge 282 Pinot Noir 2016 is available directly from the farm at R250 per bottle and select specialist wine outlets nationwide. For more information visit www.elginridge.com.
