The Paarl Art Society hosted their first meeting of the year at Bergriver Brewery and unveiled their brand new logo. The society was started in 2018 and already has over 100 members.
According to chairperson Nanette Ranger, the society was established to create a platform for expression through art initiatives and projects. “The society was founded with an ethos of inclusivity in which all genders, ethnicities, religions and ages are encouraged to join and participate and where all forms of art will be encouraged and celebrated. It aims to be a vehicle for imaginative, artistic expression in our town and surrounds,” explains Ranger, a renowned local sculptor.
The society is open to all artists, creatives and art lovers and will meet on a monthly basis for discussions, demonstrations, excursions and meetings. Membership to the society is currently free and members are invited to take part in joint creative endeavors. For more information find Paarl Art Society on Facebook.
Annelize Stroebel, general manager of the Drakenstein Local Tourism Association, was excited about the growth of the society. “Paarl and surrounds have always been home to number of extremely gifted artists from various genres and we are thrilled that a collective platform has been created to give exposure to the incredible talent in our region. We are confident that this will be another aspect of Paarl that will appeal to tourists and create yet another opportunity to showcase our amazing offerings.”
The Paarl Art Society will connect artists and other creatives in Paarl through a database and share news of upcoming exhibitions, art initiatives, art competitions and festivals. Members will also be able to advertise their own initiatives through the society on this platform.
