Young actress wants to provide platform for upcoming actors and scriptwriters with new stage production

It is never easy for new upcoming actors and scriptwriters to get a break in the entertainment industry.

Well-known entertainer, Melissa Massyn, wants to use her new stage production to provide a platform for young actors and writers to learn more about the industry and to showcase their talent in front of a live audience.

“As an artist, it is very important to stay busy and to keep creating. That is the main reason why I decided to launch this new project. I am looking forward to being part of a group of people who share my goals, and also to teach upcoming entertainers what it takes to create a theatre production from scratch,” she explains.

Aside from training new talent, Melissa will also be heading up the production, as writer, director and one of the lead characters, that is set to hit Cape Town stages within the next couple of months. “The show combines acting, singing and dancing and we will be rehearsing on Saturdays,” she shares. “We are currently busy finalising the script and will start with auditions soon. The plan is to take the production on tour in the future, but there is still a lot of work to be done.”

According to the versatile star a videographer will also be filming the entire process, which she is planning to broadcast as a web series on her YouTube channel

Any actors, dancers or singers who are interested in doing auditions can send through their information to

Melissa is a well-known local actress, television personality, videographer, social media specialist, graphic designer, master of ceremonies and motivational speaker. She has been working in the entertainment industry since 2011 and is best-known for her role as Susan in The Film Factory’s film, Hoofmeisie. Since then she also starred in Agent 2000 (2014), the SABC 2 series Erfsondes (2012 and 2017), Rudi Massyn’s short film Tithe (2013), the web series Chasing Joburg (2018), various stage productions such as Greasy and television adverts. This versatile star also does regular voice overs for radio advertisements, is the editor of Corpus Christi Church and owns her own drama school – Melissa Massyn Drama Academy

Although Melissa has been passionate about acting all her life, she only made her official film debut at the age of thirteen after her talent was discovered by a director and she was offered the role of Susan in the hit teen comedy, Hoofmeisie. Nine years later, she still credits this experience as one of her career highlights. “‘Hoofmeisie’ has definitely opened a lot of doors for me and without this experience I might have never known what I wanted to do with my life. ‘Erfsondes’ was also a wonderful challenge and I immediately fell in love with my character, Katie”, she shares. She has also been privileged enough to work with the likes of Leon Schuster, which is something that she is very thankful for.

The talented brunet grew up in a small town in KwaZulu-Natal. Currently she is in between homes in Johannesburg and Cape Town and enjoys the freedom of being available when and where she is needed. She comes from a very artistic family and used to force her brothers to act out scenes of the scrips that she created in the garage. Furthermore, she is also a talented poet, a girl who enjoys a challenge and someone who has a big heart for animal and human rights.

It takes hard work and the right person who is willing to give you a chance to launch a successful acting career. Just like the director who was willing to give her a chance, Melissa Massyn also wants to contribute towards the success and future of other stars-in-the-making. With her latest venture, she will not only be developing new talent, but also showcase her own skills as a writer, actor and director.
