(Cape Town, South Africa) Queen Victoria Road was a bustle at this month’s very festive First Thursday fiesta. Migrating the festivities from the traditional Bree Street soiree of art and bar hopping to the newly manifested Art flick and Winter Night market attractions, respectively.
Queen Victoria Road runs parallel to the Company Gardens. A green tree-lined setting leading up to the planetarium nestled beside Cape Town’s Urban Oasis – 15 on Orange Hotel, Autograph Collection. Here the illustrious Quentin Tarrantino Movie Nights take place.
Situated a stone’s throw away, at 54 Queen Victoria Road, is the Botanik Social House (in the old Land Bank building) which debuted its First Thursday Night Market on July 4th. Doors opened to public at 6pm, ideal for pursuers and consumers meandering across from the previously established art avenue which kicks off at 17:00.
The venue, an indoor forestry blossoming with towering trees and greenery springing from every pocket. 36 Vendors welcomed guests to peruse and purchase a plethora of goods from clothing, accessories and jewellery to bags, beauty and even doggy beds. The venue was exquisitely decorated with all the bells and whistles of a market, come restaurant / bar / nightclub – an interesting mix leaving no guests standing idle with little to see or do.
Entrance to these monthly winter night markets is free of charge. Each guest is welcomed by a complimentary cocktail upon arrival between 6 and 7pm. Belvedere brand-led the launch event (no alcohol offered to under 18’s of course), with Hendricks taking the lead in August.
Kweyol restaurant’s Afro-Caribbean street style cuisine was catered by Chef Mala Bryan – adding a tasteful touch to the evening. Says Bryan “I’m so thrilled to see my vision for this night market come to life. It was an honour to have so many wonderful vendors and exhibitors participating in this event. With such a great uptake from the attendees we’ll be expanding the culinary options even further for the upcoming night markets. It means a great deal to me to have such a positive response to a cuisine so close to my heart.”
Back up the road at 15 on Orange, the Cult Classic Movie nights featured award-winning film Pulp Fiction. A solid three-hour journey of non-stop action starring power cast – John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, and Bruce Willis.
