Over the last two years the Klawer Wines Heritage Day braai competition has already become a bit of a tradition and attracts teams from all over the region that compete for the coveted title, big prizes and of course, bragging rights.
This annual Klawer Wines – Vure Vir Erfenis – braai competition will take place on Saturday, 21 September at Klawer Cellars, situated in the beautiful wine growing valley between Clanwilliam and Vredendal.
“We can’t believe it’s that time of the year again, when we start preparing for our annual Heritage Day celebrations. This is our third time around, and we’re looking forward to making this one even bigger and better. Each year we have a big gathering of all the locals and all the people passing by on the N7 national route that join us in the heritage festivities,” Franci Nortje, PRO and tasting specialist at the Klawer Wine Cellar explains.
“20 teams challenge each other for the big cash and wine prizes in the competition. We supply loads of entertainment and supporters, friends and the rest of the folks normally just enjoy this special South African public holiday day with us in a cheerful and laid-back way.”
Nortje added: “We try to keep the small ones as much entertained as possible, to give the moms and dads a little bit of freedom to enjoy their day. We usually have a spit braai for those not competing in the braai competition for when the hunger strikes.”
This year, there will be even more food options to choose from to keep the tummies full and the good spirits up! And of course, there will be some live music, thanks to Die Wildberries, a country pop duo from Cape Town.
“Ice-cold wine, entertainment for the kids, food stalls, music, and good vibes. That’s the way I would like to celebrate Heritage Day,” Nortje said.
