Middelvlei to showcase at this year’s Stellenbosch Fine Wine and Food Festival

The inaugural Stellenbosch Fine Wine and Food Festival, presented by Nedbank Private Wealth, takes place this weekend and promises a stellar line up of the region’s finest wine producers and culinary geniuses.

The event takes place in Stellenbosch’s historic town hall on Saturday, 3 August from 5pm to 11pm.

Included in this year’s line up is one of Stellenbosch’s iconic family owned and operated family farms, Middelvlei Wines, who this year also celebrates their 100th anniversary. This gathering of like-minded wine enthusiasts is the perfect venue to sample winemaker Tinnie Momberg’s wines that he will be showcasing on the day, being the Middelvlei Free-Run Pinotage 2017 and Middelvlei Momberg 2016.

The uniquely South African Free-Run Pinotage offers complex flavours of raspberries, mulberries and elegant oak spices. The soft tannins are beautifully balanced by the fruit weight with creamy vanilla flavours that linger on the palate. The Momberg blend (48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Pinotage and 14% Shiraz) is a premium wine created to give extra dimension to the quality range of Middelvlei Wines. Bearing the family name, this wine reflects the optimum of quality and excellence this well-known Stellenbosch estate has to offer. The wine is a dark ruby red colour with deep shades of crimson. On the nose you’ll find delicate red and black fruit aromas backed by wooded spices. The palate shows a well-structured wine with concentrated ripe fruit flavours. This wine offers middle palate complexity and a delightful lingering aftertaste.

Adding to the day’s experience Stellenbosch’s well-known chefs, which include Bertus Basson, George Jardine, Michael Deg and Michael Broughton, will be creating perfectly paired canapes to further enhance the flavours of these superb Middelvlei wines.

Tickets to the Stellenbosch Fine Wine and Food Festival cost R500 per person and are available to book directly via www.webtickets.co.za, or at the door. Ticket price includes all tastings of wine and food. Pre-booking is advised as tickets are limited.
