Suzuki Swift gets a GLX specification

Brian Joss – Suzuki fans who want the high specification level of the Swift Sport, but who do not necessarily opt for the additional power of the Boosterjet engine, can now choose a Suzuki Swift with GLX specification level.

The new Suzuki Swift 1.2 GLX takes a leaf from the highest specification level of models such as the Ignis and Vitara, with luxuries such as automatic climate control and a 7” touch screen infotainment system as standard. It will be available with the choice of a five-speed manual or a five-speed automated-manual transmission.

“With the introduction of the GLX specification level on the popular Swift, we have been able to offer a luxury hatchback that not only beats most of its direct competitors, but that also offers better luxury specification than more expensive hatchbacks that compete in the higher price bracket,” says André Venter, divisional manager for sales and marketing at Suzuki South Africa.

Viewed on the road, the Swift 1.2 GLX can be identified by its new 15” alloy wheels, shod with 185/65 profile tyres. The outside rear-view mirrors and door handles are colour coded, while the grille, A- and B-pillars and C-pillar insert are blacked out. Recessed, colour-coded parking sensors on the rear bumper are additional tell-tale signs that the model is the highest GLX specification level.

Inside the cabin , the driver gets a leather-clad steering wheel and height adjustable driver’s seat, and Suzuki has added its proprietary 7” touch screen infotainment system.

The infotainment system offers a full colour display, voice command integration, full Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, Bluetooth and USB connectivity and will also display the image from the integrated reverse camera.

Other luxuries in the cabin include automatic climate control and a keyless access system with Start/Stop button.

As the most luxurious model of the normally aspirated Swift range, the Swift GLX also includes all the specifications of other Swift models, including ISOFIX child seat mounting points, dual front airbags, central locking, LED rear tail lamps including high-mounted LED stop lamp and electric windows.

An immobiliser and integrated alarm system are also added as standard.

The Swift GLX is powered by Suzuki’s new-generation normally aspirated 1.2 litre petrol engine, which delivers 61 kW at 6 000 rpm and 113 Nm at 4 200 rpm. When matched to a manual gearbox, this engine will power to a top speed of 170 km/h, while the automated manual transmission (AMT) will reach a top speed of 165 km/h.
