Grande Provence wins triple Gold at Michelangelo International Wine Awards

Grande Provence, the landmark heritage wine estate in Franschhoek, has won Gold medals for three signature wines at the 2019 Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards.

The Grande Provence Gold medalists are Sauvignon Blanc 2018, Chardonnay 2018 and Shiraz 2017.

The international judging panel comprising 28 prominent wine experts from 20 countries, sets the Michelangelo awards, now in its 24th year, apart from other South African wine competitions.

The Grande Provence Sauvignon Blanc 2018 is crafted in a vibrant, fruit driven style that captures the full tropical fruit spectrum with hints of cut grass on the nose so typical of this variety. The wine has a zesty acidity and long lingering finish.

The wooded Grande Provence Chardonnay 2018 is elegant and full-bodied with outstanding fruit and wood integration. The wine has a creamy texture and teems with citrus, almonds and hints of vanilla.

The plush Grande Provence Shiraz 2017 is a thoroughbred Franschhoek wine brimming with ripe blackberries, blackcurrant, plum and fruitcake. Hints of toffee, vanilla, licorice and mulled spice from well-integrated oak followed by delicate white pepper, complete the taste profile.

All the wines are available for tasting and sales at the Grande Provence cellar door, and can be purchased online at  The Grande Provence Sauvignon Blanc sells for R105, the Chardonnay for R165 and the Shiraz for R165.
