Entries now open for the 2020 Rainmaker RollerCoaster

The world’s first 7-day Gravel Adventure, the Rainmaker RollerCoaster is quickly becoming a must-do gravel event in South Africa.

HotChillee has been producing bucket list cycling events since 2004 and will celebrate the third edition of the race in 2020.

New for 2020, those looking to race can now enter as a solo rider in the “individual” racing category or can take part in the already popular “team” competition as a team of two. For those who are looking for an adventure at a slightly easier pace, there is also the option to ride the event in a group supported by the HotChillee Ride Captains.

“Having just completed the event over a week ago, we saw the growth of gravel and the momentum it’s gaining,” Sven Thiele, HotChillee founder said. “The feedback we’ve received from the riders and the amount of returning riders show that we’re on the right track with this gravel-adventure. We believe there is no better way than taking in your surroundings than on a bicycle and several times over the past week did you have your breath taken away by the views. We’re looking forward to hosting cyclists of all levels in 2020 once again.”

Stage one will start in Swellendam on 3 October 2020 with a sunset ride through a private game reserve followed by a welcome braai.

Stage two is Swellendam to Swellendam following the popular “Around the Pot” route in the area and will be followed by an evening relaxing at the waterfall.

Stage three is where adventure comes in in the name. The finish will be in the Little Karoo Bush Camp after riding through the stunning Gysmanshoek Pass. This will be an evening of remote camping with open campfires and no option of upgrading to a B&B available.

The challenging and popular Rooiberg Pass features once again with the stage finish in Calitzdorp followed by a pool party. Stage five is Calitzdorp to Oudtshoorn where Big Game drive options are available.

Oudtshoorn to Uniondale has quickly become a rider favourite with breathtaking views and will once again play host to stage six.

Uniondale to the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay is the final stage which includes stopping at Kwano Cycling Academy in the township of Kwanokuthula. The Rainmaker braai with welcome drinks, wine, entertainment and awards presentation will take place in the evening.
