Defeat for SWD women

It was a disappointing start for the SWD Women’s team in their first round of matches in the Cricket South Africa provincial women’s competition matches that were played at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn this weekend.

The SWD ladies (112 all out) suffered a nail biting one wicket defeat against Eastern Province (113/9 in 38.4 overs) in the limited over match on Saturday.  On Sunday the visitors from Port Elizabeth were boosted with Protea star, Dané van Niekerk, who excelled with an excellent all-round performance.  Thanks to a bowling spell of 3/5 (in 4 overs) and a half century (50) by van Niekerk EP were victorious with a 9-wicket bonus point victory.  SWD were restricted to 85 all out where after EP responded with 86/1 (13.5 overs)
