George, Garden Route (Dec 2019) – The 17th Grootbrak Grabadoo taking place on Tuesday, 31 December 2019, will draw over 1300 cyclists, runners and walkers, 64% of whom come from outside the Western Cape and will add over R100 000 to the economy of Great Brak.
The event offers sponsorship partners an ideal opportunity to reach an affluent target market while raising much-needed funds for local beneficiaries. “Mossel Bay Tourism is very appreciative of private initiatives and events that draw feet and Tourism income into an area. Events like the Groot Brak Grabadoo showcase a town and its treasures. A value cannot be placed on this type of word of mouth marketing generated during such an event. Return on investments like these comes in many forms and Mossel Bay Tourism is dedicated to the ongoing development of our rural municipal areas,” says Aneli Gerber, the Chief Operations Officer.
The Grootbrak Grabadoo is one of the biggest cycling events in the area and the perfect way to say goodbye to the old year.
Runners, walkers, families and even pets can participate in the most beautiful walk in the Garden Route, South Africa, around the Great Brak River in a 4.8 km route.
Mountain bikers can choose from 4 exciting routes which includes some wonderful twists and turns in the forest – 15 km, 36 km, 53 km, and 71 km.
Last year a record number of just over 1 300 participants took part. “Most of the participants are visitors to the Garden Route,” said Mimi Finestone of interface by goji, who started the event 17 years ago with a friend.
Vodacom is again the premier partner for this year’s event, with supporting partners Thinus Nel Motors, De Dekke Spar, De Kaap Estates, Mossel Bay Tourism & Coimbra Cycle house.
Frontier Medix’s team will be in attendance throughout the race. “We will have a fully equipped medical tent at the start/finish on the sports grounds in the village, with stretchers, equipment & resus ready” said Jacques Lourens.
Mayflower Cricket Club & CAWS 4 PAWS will once again be the main beneficiary. Members of the Mayflower Cricket club also contribute their energy and time to the event. “The club regards itself as a critical enabler to further the game and to promote development of cricket at grassroots level. In addition, the club endeavours to promote social cohesion within the communities, ensuring a positive community spirit.”
The MTB starts at 07:00, with the different distances starting at three-minute intervals, and the fun walk/run starts at 07:15.
