The bravest most courageous people in Africa are the tech entrepreneurs.
It is this group that holds the power to change the economic narrative by creating new jobs and developing new solutions to address continental problems ranging from food, to education, to health, to financial inclusion and energy. Yet this pivotal economic force gets the least attention when it comes to financial and infrastructural support. That is why the SA Innovation Summit exists – to bring together stakeholders who can all work together on solutions to fix this problem, tackling how to take the African continent economy to the next level. We need society at large to play its role.
Preparations are well underway for the 13th SA Innovation Summit and the entrepreneurial ecosystem eagerly awaits another gathering of entrepreneurs and innovation thought leaders as they tackle how to take the African continent economy to the next level.
The recently held, World Economic Forum 2020 launched the Africa 2.0 project– with a Wakanda theme – “the future of Africa” – and is said to have had people hungry to learn about Africa; what is happening, what it has to offer in terms of digitalisation and technology. According to Independent Media chairperson Dr Iqbal Survé, who formed part of the South African delegation, “the event epitomised the potential this continent has to not only embrace technology but use it to propel Africa beyond the established world. Africans talking about the innovation and solutions they have created to address uniquely African issues.”
This is the precisely the aim of the SA Innovation Summit. “Prioritising tech entrepreneurship is crucial for tackling the greatest challenges Africa face such as inclusivity, poverty, education, food security and health”, says Dr Audrey Verhaeghe – chairperson of the SA Innovation Summit.
SAIS2020 is due to take place from 30 September to 2 October at the Cape Town International Convention Centre and is set to bring over 1500 delegates from 33 countries together to facilitate more than R1bn in deals between investors and start-ups representing the future of innovation.
