South African Tourism and the Tourism Business Council of South Africa have asked the tourism industry to submit reasons or motivations as to why specific sub-sectors should be allowed to operate sooner than Lockdown Level 1.
Submissions will be reviewed and incorporated into the sector recovery plan.
How to make your submissions:
- Visit https://pages.services/tourismrecovery.co.za/recovery-survey
- Complete the form and submit your recommendation. When you submit a reason why your sub-sector should open at a higher Lockdown Level, be very specific about what your sub-sector is and why it could be regarded as low risk for contracting or spreading the Coronavirus. For example, self-catering accommodation units where there are no communal areas and no contact with staff.
The due date for submissions is Thursday, 14 May 2020.
“I encourage every Tourism business to submit strong, viable reasons why sub-sectors should be allowed to operate at higher lockdown levels, to help our industry and businesses survive. Please also share this information with your Tourism partners and peers, to make sure our sector is well represented” says Joan Shaw, George Municipality’s Tourism Manager.
