Talented new artist Corné Pretorius made an impressive debut into the South African music scene earlier this year, especially considering that his first single “Vuur en Vlam” was launched during the tight national lockdown in April.
Tecla Ciolfi, owner of South Africa’s biggest independent music website Texx and the City, chose this single as her #TexxTrack of the week on her weekly music round up on Mix93.8FM’s The Breakfast Crunch with Thabo Magubane, back in April. The track also received great airplay on national radio stations, and together with his popular second single “Vergewe My”, these two hits have collectively reached more than 40 000 hits on Youtube up to date.

The new single “Halfvol” is an “up upbeat tune, written to get people moving and grooving” says Pretorius. The video has just been released and fans can keep an eye on Corné Pretorius Musiek on Facebook for updates on when the track will be available for download and streaming.
Pretorius says that he wrote the song in studio with Francois van Coke and Richard Onraet. “We were in the mood for something upbeat. We wanted to write a tune for Summer vibes. It has been a difficult year for everyone. Now we are ready to go out and play! The song will hopefully inspire people to dust off those funky lilos and plastic plakkies and head to the beach.”
Corné Pretorius began playing the guitar at the age of seven, so to encourage him to play music as often as possible, his dad built him a small studio in their garage. After Corné finished school, he started working in construction and put music on the backburner. He them married his sweetheart, started a family and life went on as usual. “But then, you know,” he explains, “one day you realize that life is too short to not live your passion. I contacted Van Coke Studios at the beginning of the year and have been recording many tracks there over the past few months. Francois van Coke and Hunter Kennedy have respectively been writing the lyrics for my songs and Richard Onraet has been brilliant in bringing home the musical arrangements. There is a great work synergy for me with these three extremely talented musicians. I am lucky to have worked with them on so many different new tracks.”
The music videos for all three tracks that have been released up to date was made by Johan Nel, who is well-known for the impressive videos that he made for Fokofpolisiekar back in the days. “Johan just gets it,” says Corné. “He instantly picks up on the vibe of a song and is an excellent visual storyteller. Hope you enjoy “Halfvol!”
