The annual KFC Mini-Cricket Provincial Seminars are an important part of planning for the season ahead and the virtual environment will lay the foundation for the return of play once government gives the go ahead, hopefully early in the new year.

CSA’s Mass Participation Coordinator, Buhle Motshegoa, is elated that there is finally some cricket activity happening and looks forward to engaging with the more than 1280 KFC Mini-Cricket volunteer coaches and coordinators from across the country.

“The virtual KFC Mini-Cricket Provincial Seminars come at a time when everyone is looking to get back on the cricket field. We look forward to engaging with the KFC Mini-Cricket coordinators and the volunteer coaches who are such an integral part of the KFC Mini-Cricket programme. We hope through these virtual seminars, we are still able to reignite the passion for the game and continue to instil skills and information that will help grow the sport we love,” Motshegoa says.

The KFC Mini-Cricket Provincial Seminars aim to highlight some of the past season’s gains and further communicates the strategy for the season ahead.

KFC CSI Manager, Andra Ferreira Nel, says planning for the virtual seminars has gone according to plan and is looking forward to hosting and interacting with the cricketing family.

“Even through challenging times, we have seen that sport continues to be a fundamental part of our society and continues to bring hope and change to communities. We are excited to continue engaging on the KFC Mini-Cricket programme, albeit being done virtually. We hope this will act as a catalyst for us to get back onto the field as we miss the kids, the excitement of the game and all those involved,” she says.

We also want to use these sessions to recognise and empower our community builders for all the hard work they do in their respective communities,” she adds.

The KFC Mini-Cricket programme introduces children to the game and is one of South Africa’s biggest grassroot sports development programmes.  It is critical foundation stage in the development of South Africa’s future cricketing heroes and is the first phase in CSA’s ‘pipeline to the Proteas’.
