The C-team of Union Stars will join the A-team of this Oudtshoorn-based club in the premier league competition next season after they defeated Telesto Ramblers (from Rosemoore in George) by 36 runs in the Promotion League Division 1 final that was played at the Six Gun Grill Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn on Sunday.
Union Stars displayed a solid batting performance in their allotted 50 overs when they posted 196/6 thanks to meaningful contributions with the bat by Shaun-Dee Meyer (36), Reagon Botha (25), Maurits Pretorius (47) and Jayvier Philander (33). For Ramblers Quinton Davids (2/32) and Arthur Lottering (2/41) each bagged two wickets.
Ramblers, in their run chase at 89/3 after 32 overs, still sniffed a chance for victory but they lost wickets at regular intervals. They required 80 from the last ten over and after a threatening innings by Fabian Campher who hit 46 (from 57 balls; 7×4) they were eventually dismissed in the penultimate over for 160.
