Brilliant Brits steers Badgers to victory over Titans

Thanks to a brilliant batting display by their Protea batting hero, Tazmin Brits, the Six Gun Garden Route Badgers women’s team claimed another important victory in the Cricket South Africa Top 6 women’s competition on Saturday.

In the match that was played at the Six Gun Grill Recreation Ground on Saturday, the Badgers defeated the Fidelity Titans by 45 runs and cemented their place in the Top 6 for next season after they gained promotion to the top tier this season.

The Badgers, who were put into bat, posted a competitive 258/9 in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to a second wicket partnership of 109 of 111 balls between Brits and her Protea teammate, Annerie Dercksen.  Brits contribute a destructive 127 (from only 109 balls with 7 sixes and 8 fours.  Dercksen added a support role with a well-played half-century of 59 (from 63 balls; 2×6, 5×4).  Askahe Nyovane, who batted at number four, made so solid 27 (1×4) from 70 balls.  Nicolien Janse van Rensburg (5/44 in 10 overs) was the bowling hero for the visitors.

In their run chase, the Titans never looked threatening of reaching the target and responded with 213/9.   For the Badgers Miceala Andrews (2/40 in 8 overs), Julandi Saayman (2/33 in 10 overs), and Haroline Rhodes (2/40 in 10 overs) all claimed two wickets each.  With this Andrews and Rhodes joined Jané Winster as players who bagged 100 wickets in CSA Limited overs cricket.  Robin Searle was the top scorer with 72 (90 balls, 8×4) whilst the versatile van Rensburg added 35 (from 44 balls, 2×4)
