The SWD Women’s club champions for the past nine (9) seasons, Union Stars, has shown their class when the qualified as the Western Cape representative for the Cricket South Africa T20 club challenge.
Union Stars, on Sunday, at the Six Gun Grill Recreation Ground, outplayed the Western Province champion, Old Mutual, with an 80 runs victory to book a place in the CSA Club T20 challenge that will be hosted in Potchefstroom from 13-16 April.
Old Mutual advanced to the play-off match against Union Stars after they defeated Coronations from Boland. Stars, who batted first, posted a competitive 150/5, in their allotted 20 overs thanks to a match winning innings by Miceala Andrews (68 from 62 balls; 2×6, 7×4). Her Garden Route Badgers team mates Mieke de Ridder (17) and Haroline Rhodes (34) added valuable support. Old Mutual was restricted to 70/8 in their 20 overs with Kate Seager (28) the best batter. Marnezelle Rabie (2/13 in 4 overs) and Faith de Jonck (3/26) excelled with the ball for Union Stars.
