Badgers claim dramatic super-over win over Titans in women’s T20 challenge

In what was an edge-of-the-seat conclusion to the day’s play, the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers sealed a gripping Super-Over victory over the Fidelity Titans in the T20 Challenge of the inaugural CSA Professional Domestic Women’s League in Oudtshoorn on Sunday.

In the Division One clash at the Recreation Ground, top-order batter Asakhe Nyovane produced a leading score of 54 off 40 deliveries (8 fours) as the Garden Route Badgers posted 132/3 after their 20 overs before the Titans opener, Robyn Searle’s unbeaten top-score worth 66* off 57 balls (5 fours) helped the visitors tie the game with a total of 132 all out.

With the match going into the Super-Over, the Badger’s pair of Nyovane (3*) and Julia Hoal (4*), with the help of two extras from Paulina Mashishi (0/9), carried the hosts over the line, surpassing the Titans’ effort of 8/1 in the single-over shootout.

In the limited over match on Saturday an outstanding effort with the bat, all-rounder Eliz-Mari Marx produced a pulsating century worth 115 runs off 66 deliveries, including 11 fours and six sixes to help the Titans to a season-opening victory over the Garden Route Badgers.  The match was reduced to 43 overs per team after a rain-delayed start.

The Titans sealed a convincing 160-run win over the Badgers after dismissing their opponents for 115 in defence of their 275/4 in the first innings after the overs were reduced to 43.

This was thanks to Marx’s match-winning performance with the willow, assisted by contributions from Robyn Searle (86* off 125; 5 fours) and a four-wicket haul from Paulinah Mashishi (4/19) and three wickets from Gandhi Jafta (3/28)
