Upgrading three off-stream dams on portion 18 of farm 56 Diepperivier & a dam on portion 17 of farm 116 Klein Langkloof, Noll, Western Cape
Notice is given in terms of the National Water Act (Act 36 of 1998) of the intent to submit the above proposal (WU29430) for authorisation to the Department of Water and Sanitation. The dams are existing lawful water uses (ELU) on both properties, for irrigation and the storage of water, however, the maintenance activities and expansion of the main dam requires authorisation. No additional water supply is needed, only increased water storage capacity.
On Ptn 18 of Farm 56 it is proposed to expand the main off-stream storage dam to a capacity of 48 156.6 m³ and increase the two smaller off-stream dams to 15005 m³ & 8178 m³, respectively. Therefore, the ELU authorised storage volume of 33 600 m³ needs to be increased by 37739,6 m³.
On Ptn 17 of Farm 116 there is one instream dam with a capacity of 48960 m³ which is authorized under ELU for a volume of 13 300 m³ and therefore the volume requires amendment on the water use license. Additionally, periodic dam maintenance will be required on all the dams, as and when necessary.
The following water uses are triggered, on each property, by the project:
Section 21(b) – storing of water.
Section 21(c) -Impeding or diverting the flow of water in a watercourse, and
Section 21(i) – Altering the bed, banks, course or characteristics of a watercourse.
