Integrated roadblock marks launch of Transport Month 2025

The George Traffic Department, in collaboration with Provincial Traffic and SAPS, kicked off Transport Month 2025 with an integrated roadblock on the N2 near George on Friday, 3 October. The operation targeted driver behaviour and fatigue, vehicle fitness, and passenger overload as part of ongoing efforts to promote safer roads and protect all road users. Transport Month highlights the critical role of transport in the economy and calls for safer, more reliable, and accessible transport systems for everyone.

Officials reminded motorists to drive defensively, avoid distractions, and ensure vehicles are roadworthy. Common public transport offences still include speeding, dangerous overtaking, ignoring road signs, and driving under the influence — all of which enforcement teams remain vigilant about. Passengers are urged to always wear seatbelts and keep limbs inside the vehicle, while drivers should stay alert, avoid cellphone use, and carry out regular vehicle checks. The George Traffic Department will continue working with law enforcement partners to raise awareness, enforce compliance, and keep our roads safe throughout Transport Month and beyond.
