Badgers stun Western Province in HollywoodBets Pro50 Series

The Garden Route Badgers women’s team has stunned their WSB Western Province counterparts with a comprehensive 75 runs victory in their Hollywoodbets Pro 50 series match at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn on Saturday.

After winning the toss and with their backs against the wall at 9/2 a 92 runs partnership between Julia Hoal (50) and Izel Cilliers (65) steered the Badgers to a competitive score of 237/9 (in their allotted 50 overs). The captain Zintle Kula – also chipped in with a valuable innings of 36.

Only their international star, Dane van Niekerk (66) offered resistance as Western Province was dismissed for 162. For the home team Kula (2/22), Lucian Swartz (2/33), Nicolien Janse van Rensburg (2/19), Kiara Fisher (2/31) and Yolandi Potgieter (2/23) all contributed with fine bowling figures.

In the Pro20 match on Sunday Western Province scored 123/8 whereafter the Badgers responded with 101 (all out).  The Badgers women failed to put partnerships together mainly due to unnecessary runouts whilst Faye Tunnicliff (49) played a match winning innings for Western Province.  For the Badgers, who dropped a few vital catches – the captain, Zintle Kula was outstanding with figures of 5/21.
