The Garden Route Badgers has maintained their winning streak with another impressive victory in the Cricket South Africa Division 2 T20 series. George van Heerden and his troops secured a five wicket victory against the dangerous Mpumalanga Rhino’s at the REC Cricket Stadium in Oudtshoorn on Saturday.
The Rhino’s who were put in to bat was put under pressure by a fine bowling and fielding display and reached a below-par 124/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Herman Rolfes top scored with 42 (41 balls) with Liam Alder (3/26 in 4 overs) leading the Badgers bowling effort with Kyle Jacobs (1/11 in 3 overs) who was equally impressive.
The Badgers run chase was solid and they unfortunately missed the bonus point victory by one ball as they surpassed the target (128/5 in 16.1 overs). Yaseen Valli (20 from 9 balls; 1×6, 3×4), Ruan Terblanche (27 from 28 balls; 2×6, 1×4), Heath Richards (19 from 17 balls; 1×6, 1×4) and Nathan Engelbrecht (28 from 23 balls; 4×4) all contributed with the bat. For the Rhino’s their veteran, Aubrey Swanepoel bagged 2/14.
The Badgers, who have now won three out of four matches, have consolidated their 3rd position on the log (12 points after 4 matches with games in hand). Their next match will be against the Eastern Storm at Oudtshoorn on Wednesday.
