The George Municipality’s Economic Development and Electro-Technical Services departments, in partnership with the Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning and the GreenCape Technical Team, last week successfully hosted a Green Economy Help Desk aimed at supporting businesses, entrepreneurs, and residents in their transition towards more sustainable and resource-efficient practices.

The initiative that was held at the George Banquet Hall provided businesses with direct, one-on-one consultations with green economy experts, offering technical, financial, and legal insights on key sectors such as renewable energy, water management, and sustainable agriculture. Participating businesses received comprehensive information packs designed to assist in decision-making for investments in renewable energy solutions and water-saving technologies.

In addition to expert advice, attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with representatives from both municipal and provincial governments, creating a platform for collaborative problem-solving and unlocking potential support pathways for green initiatives. The event also served as a valuable networking opportunity for businesses across various value chains.

The Help Desk was open to all sectors, including agriculture, tourism, hospitality, manufacturing, retail, utilities, infrastructure, corporate services, and more, providing tailored guidance to those seeking solutions to water, energy, and agricultural challenges. Businesses were able to explore practical options to improve resource resilience, enhance operational efficiency, and adopt technologies that support long-term sustainability.
