GRDM sips a SODA.  The Annual Garden Route Environmental Forum (GREF) event, to be hosted on 7 June.  The Skål 2019 Sustainable Tourism Awards have just opened for entries.  Approximately 50 George residents attended a presentation at the George Botanical Garden Education Centre last Wednesday to grab the opportunity to start their own compost bin and worm farm.  Work on the repair section on Caledon Street in George will continue tomorrow with excavation and then import of suitable material from Thursday.  George Municipality has with the aid of provincial funding, handed over 418 houses in Thembalethu.  Invitation to a presentation by PUM: Netherlands Senior Experts.  The Knysna Municipality commenced with the replacement of conventional metered system to prepaid electrical meters in Wards 9 and 10 last week.  The Garden Route community can look forward to a weekend of spectacular harbour highlights in November.  Spoil your Mom this Mother’s Day with a decadent feast at The SeaFood restaurant at The Plettenberg on 12 May 2019.

Naspers continues to pull the JSE upwards.  Moodys seem more confident in the post-election economy than most.  SARB remains independent.  Inflation remains within the target band – yeah right!

Ajax and Barca go through to the semis.  Philander and Kleinveldt show there are miles in those legs yet.    Phehlukwayo should be selected, but I’m not sure about Amla.

A first SODA for the Garden Route

On 12 April 2019, the Garden Route District Municipality’s (GRDM) Executive Mayor, Councillor Memory Booysen, took an unprecedented step for the District by delivering its first State of the District Address (SODA).

Household composting pilot project

Approximately 50 George residents attended a presentation at the George Botanical Garden Education Centre last Wednesday to grab the opportunity to start their own compost bin and worm farm. The residents are part of a pilot project where they received composting bins and worm farming bins to start off.

Update on George housing including Thembalethu UISP and Golden Valley Housing Project

George Municipality has with the aid of provincial funding, handed over 418 houses in the Thembalethu Upgrading of Informal Settlements Programme (UISP) since late last year to residents and another 282 houses of the total 700 houses are in various stages of construction and have been awarded to various contractors.

PUM is a Dutch organisation which utilises the services of retired personnel from the Dutch travel & tourism industry who will mentor your business (for free), and give you detailed advice on specific aspects to be agreed between the two parties.

The Garden Route community can look forward to a weekend of spectacular harbour highlights in November, as Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) firms up 2 and 3 November as the dates for its new-look Port Festival in Mossel Bay.
