Western Cape Premier Alan Winde will deliver the 2026 State of the Province Address (SOPA) in George on Wednesday, 25 February 2026, marking the official opening of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament for the year.

The address will take place at the Conville Community Hall, 1 Pienaar Street, George, at 18:30.

In a statement issued ahead of the event, Winde said the occasion presents an opportunity to reflect on the province’s progress over the past year, particularly in growing the economy and creating jobs. He added that while there is much to celebrate across the Western Cape, significant work remains in 2026 and beyond.

“There is much we can take pride in across the Western Cape. At the same time, significant work lies ahead of us in 2026. My State of the Province Address provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress we have made over the past year, particularly in growing the province’s economy and creating jobs, and to outline our goals and priorities not only for 2026 but also for the next several years,” Winde said.

The Premier indicated that his administration will continue focusing on driving strong, diverse and inclusive economic growth aimed at creating more employment opportunities. The address is expected to outline the provincial government’s strategic priorities, policy direction and spending focus for the year ahead, with particular emphasis on economic resilience, service delivery and long-term development planning.

Hosting the address in George highlights the provincial government’s commitment to engaging communities beyond Cape Town and underscores the growing importance of the Garden Route region within the Western Cape economy.

The State of the Province Address is a key annual event in the provincial political calendar, setting the tone for legislative and executive programmes for the year. It also provides residents, businesses and civil society with insight into the government’s performance and planned interventions.
