To honour and encourage giving free legal advice to underprivileged people, a non-government organization, ProBono.Org, recently hosted an event at the Waterford Hotel where legal practitioners were recognized for the roles they have played in providing legal assistance to those who could not afford it.
Ms. Shamika Dwarika, the Regional Director of Probono.Org, said an event such as this was to show gratitude to the lawyers who dedicated themselves in assisting communities, by pledging their time without expecting anything in return – extending legal advice from labour to divorce matters.
Ms Sanelisiwe Nyasulu, a director at Garlicke and Bousfield and their probono officer, received the certificate of appreciation for the most numbers of hours given to probono work by the firm. She said that she felt both excited and grateful that Garlicke & Bousfield was recognised at such an event. It showed that their hard work had been greatly appreciated and it also provided an opportunity for lawyers to share innovative ideas on how to assist communities in the future.
