We take a look at the top individual performers from the 2014 CSA Under-17 Cricket Week that took place in Johannesburg from 11 – 15 December.
Western Province beat Gauteng to be crowned ‘champions’ of the tournament. Thus it comes as little surprise to see that many of their individuals were the stand out performers at the week.
Aaqil Ebrahim was named Player of the Tournament and it’s quite easy to see why when looking at his stats. The Western Province allrounder amassed 258 runs (more than anyone else) and placed tied ninth on the wicket-takers list with 10 sticks in just five matches. His teammate Gavin Kaplan registered the highest score of the week with his unbeaten 138 which came against Gauteng in the unofficial final.
The bowling stakes were also topped by Western Province players. Ziyaad Abrahams was the leading wicket taker by some distance with 15 scalps. Behind him with 12 was fellow opening bowler Ryan Klein, whilst star of the show Ebrahim’s 6/26 was the best individual haul of the week.
Special mention must also be made of SWD’s Nevada Jacobs who’s 11 wickets in four matches came at a phenomenal strike rate of 15.2, better than any other.
In total, seven centuries and four five-wicket hauls were claimed at the week, with only Ebrahim having his name on both lists.
